FCID 4100: Humanities Internship Student Information

WHO

Declared majors or minors in the Department of Classics, Department of Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies, Department of English, Department of Germanic & Slavic Studies, Department of History, Department of Linguistics, Department of Philosophy, Department of Religion, or the Department of Romance Languages

WHAT

A three-credit internship course that requires at least 9 hours per week/129 hours per semester of internship work, along with four in-person meetings with the professor and internship class which will fulfill the Experiential Learning requirement

WHERE

Internship hours will be completed on-site (or at a location determined by the employer) and the four in-person meetings will be held from 8-11:10 a.m. in 135 LeConte on 1/8, 2/19, 3/19, and 4/16

WHEN

Spring Semester 2025

WHY

This is a supervised internship; it is a course designed to move you out of the classroom and into on-the-job training. You will be working for a real employer, using the tools and insights you have acquired in your classroom work and, presumably, acquiring new tools and insights as a fledgling professional. The deliverables you will complete as part of the course will help prepare you for employment after graduation.

HOW

BEFORE DECEMBER 1 2024

Source an internship.  Students are responsible for telling their site supervisor/employer that they want to use the internship as part of the FCID 4100: Humanities Internship course

Submit the Application to Take Part in FCID 4100: Humanities Internship

BEFORE JANUARY 6 2025

Submit an offer letter on employer letterhead to Professor Lasek-White. Details about what the letter must include are listed in the application packet

Make sure external employers (outside of the University of Georgia) submit the Memo of Understanding, which is included in the application packet. This step isn’t necessary for UGA employers

Receive a Permission of Department from Professor Lasek-White and register for the course
