Kudos, April 2022

Amidst awards season at the university, we also celebrated book awards, fellowships, scholarships, donors and three-minute thesis presentation during April. The university community celebrated Honors Week 2022 from April 18-22 with a series of events that recognized excellence among students, staff, faculty and alumni. Just a few of the many Franklin College highlights:

Steve Lewis and Sarah Shannon are among five faculty members named Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professors – UGA Today

Timothy Yang, associate professor in the department of history, was awarded the 2022 Hagley Prize for the best book in business history

Leah Dutton, a doctoral student in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, was the grand prize winner in the 11th annual Three Minute Thesis competition 

Claudio Saunt, Regents’ Professor and Russell Professor of American History, has been awarded a 2022 Fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation

UGA Honors student Elise Karinshak is among 417 undergraduates across the nation to be recognized as 2022 Barry Goldwater Scholars

Molly Stanley, academic advisor in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and Katherine Field, Coordinator of the Franklin College Office of Transfer Academic Services (OTAS), are among the four University of Georgia academic advisors to received 2021 Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Advising Awards

Three of the five 2022 Graduate Student Excellence-in-Teaching awards went to Franklin College students: Elise Robinson, Michael Starling, Gabrielle Stecher

The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia hosted its second 2022 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exit Exhibition – photos

Zaira Castillo, a Masters student in piano in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will begin a paid internship with the Carnegie Hall National Youth Ensembles program. She will be a resident assistant traveling with NYO2, an ensemble supporting outstanding young musicians from underrepresented communities. Castillo was a previous Willson Center Arts Lab Fellow
