2019 in Review

By:
Alan Flurry

The many great Franklin College stories of 2019 create a vibrant image of ongoing excellence at every level. Our faculty, students and staff are leading the University of Georgia in its most dynamic era yet.

From TED Fellows to Guggenheim Fellowships, imaginative research and teaching draw out the best in our students. Our colleagues provided elegant expression to the fire at Notre Dame de Paris and the death of Toni Morrison, cultural tragedies that unite in the broad sentiments of connection they inspire. Our charge includes the distinction to commemorate our heights and a duty to examine the areas in which we fall short. Sharing the power of art to heal reinforces the impulse to improve. Even small changes can lead to the profound insights connecting how our world works to our roles within that grand orchestration.

Extraordinary alumni stories and international opportunities alike transform boundaries into bridges. Learning from our past to refine our story builds lasting confidence in the enduring power of the institution to be a guiding light for new directions and an indelible sense of belonging and togetherness. We continue to advance the opportunities of human possibility led by our beliefs in the strength of commonwealth, the urgency of telling the story and sharing the lessons about what it all means.

This is the 200th chronicles post of 2019, and these were just a few of the great stories that resonated. It is an honor to share the great work of our colleagues, and we look forward to more in the New Year. 2020, wow!
