The power of international engagement

The great strengths of UGA, and American higher education more generally, are encapsulated in its international engagement and appeal. The diversity and flexibilty of American higher education - so many choices, majors and programs, no single path to success - bring many to the United States to study, prepare, train and succeed. It's a two-way street, and this diversity creates a dynamic atmosphere wherever it manifests. But the 'pull' of this system on people beyond our shores presents a multitude of advantages for every campus. The influx of new people, ideas, perspectives and creativity is the lifeblood not only of our campuses, but of our country.

More than 2,600 international students from 125 different countries are enrolled at UGA. Our faculty represents at least that level of diversity in countries of origin, religions, languages and cultural experience. This is our richness.

We send our students abroad in record numbers.

We host visitors from every corner of the globe.

We participate in, teach, learn from and sponsor projects in dozens of countries every year. What this level of engagement means is quite simply everthing that American higher education was envisioned to accomplish. When we build this kind of learning environment, our campus truly has something to offer not just to international students but to high school graduates from every county in the state. Every state in the nation. And when international students decide to build their careers in our towns and cities after graduation, our country becomes stronger. That's what's exceptional about this country - no exceptions. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is responsible for the health of the commonwealth. We keep the door open and the rungs of the ladder in perfect working order. It's who we are.
