Franklin Visiting Scholars Program presents Stephen Carpenter

Artist, activist and educator Stephen B. Carpenter II will visit UGA the week of Feb. 20 as part of the Franklin Visiting Scholars program. His work and presentations at UGA will focus on creative interdisciplinary responses to the global water crisis:

Carpenter's visit to UGA will include a public performance and workshop on "Collaborative Creative Resistance" Feb. 19 at noon at the west entrance of the school of art. Both the lecture and the workshop will explore Carpenter's argument that the global water crisis demands creative interdisciplinary responses in the form of artistic, curricular and pedagogical interventions that raise awareness, engage research and take action.

Using clay, sawdust, water and other recycled materials, Carpenter's performance will demonstrate the production of ceramic water filters made of clay and sawdust. Carpenter has conducted similar presentations at universities in Wisconsin, Texas and California.

Carpenter will present a public lecture at the Lamar Dodd School of Art on Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. in room S151.
