Fall Commencement

Congratulations to all of our fall 2013 graduates in the Franklin College and UGA:

Approximately 2,176 University of Georgia students will be eligible to receive degrees at the 2013 fall semester Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 13 in Stegeman Coliseum.

An estimated 1,667 students will be eligible to participate in the ceremony for undergraduates at 9:30 a.m. Amy Glennon, a UGA alumna and first female publisher of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, will be the speaker.

Rebekah Ellen Pearson of Columbus will be the student speaker during the undergraduate exercises. She will receive dual bachelor's degrees in international affairs and communications studies.

During the undergraduate ceremony, seven students will be recognized as First Honor Graduates for maintaining a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in all work attempted at UGA as well as all college-level transfer work prior to or following enrollment at the university. They are: Katherine Lynn Farrington of Duluth, majoring in early childhood education; Janette Elizabeth Gee of Jefferson, majoring in psychology; Hillary Virginia Keller of Cumming, double-majoring in sociology and psychology; Travis Michael Miller of Kennesaw, majoring in international affairs; Bradley Reed Parke of Thomasville, majoring in genetics; Sara Alexis Patton of Suwanee, majoring in human development and family science, and Kassie Leigh Smith of Cumming, majoring in mathematics education.

We always think of commencement as a rite of spring but graduation is a major accomplishment no matter what time of year (or life, for that matter). Congratulations to our students and families. Enjoy this moment and best of luck in your future endeavors.
