Lindau-Nobel Laureate Meetings

And speaking of inventors, the Lindau-Nobel Laureate Meetings have been connecting generations of scientists for over 50 years. These annual meetings offer a chance for young researchers nominated by a worldwide network of Academic Partners to interact with Nobel Laureates in panel discussions, seminars and during various social events scheduled as part of the five-day day event. When you think about it at all, connecting young scientists with their more experienced (and decorated) colleagues would seem to be a very important thing to do - and for a variety of reasons that apply in both directions.

This year's 62nd Lindau-Nobel Meetings are dedicated to the field of physics and the Scientific Review Panel for the meetings has selected George Larsen, Ph.D. candidate/ Graduate Research Assistant in the department of physics and astronomy to attend along with 550 other young scientists. Larsen will attend the Lindau Meetings from July 1-6, 2012 in Lindau, Germany.

"Attending the Lindau Meetings is a remarkable opportunity, and I feel honored to have been selected," Larsen said, whose research focuses on nano-optics and solar energy conversion using nanotechnology. "I can't imagine a more intellectually rewarding experience than interacting with Noble Laureates in such an open atmosphere.  And, meeting the other young researchers from around the world will provide an excellent network for future collaboration."

Congratulations to Larsen, a graduate of Rabun County High School, and Yiping Zhao. Larsen is the third member of Zhao's research group to have had the opportunity to participate in these meetings. The previous two were Wilson Smith and John Gibbs.
