Richard Neupert, Charles H. Wheatley Professor of the Arts and a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus in the department of theatre and film studies, retired from UGA in August 2024 after 30 years at the university. He was the coordinator of the film studies program from its inception in 1999 until his retirement. Neupert has been centrally involved in the leadership of the downtown Athens nonprofit arthouse theater Ciné since its founding, and currently serves as co-chair of its board of directors. His teaching and outreach have impacted countless students and community members, deepening and enriching their love and enjoyment of movies with his world-renowned expertise – particularly in the area of French film – which he shares generously and with infectious enthusiasm.

Neupert also has organized a years-long series of Cinema Roundtables in partnership with the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, and continues to do so post-retirement. Following the Nov. 22 roundtable on the year 1924 in American and European film, the public is invited to celebrate with Richard in the Ciné Lab. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
