Henry Louis Gates Jr: "Genealogy, Genetics and Race"

Henry_Louis_Gates-w.jpgHenry Louis Gates Jr., Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University, will present "Genealogy, Genetics and Race" as the 2015 Peabody-Smithgall Lecture.



Gates, a celebrated scholar and Peabody winner, has created 13 documentary films and authored 16 books and scores of articles. 

Deborah Lipstadt: "The Holocaust: An American Understanding 1945-2015"

Lipstadt-w.jpgDeborah Lipstadt, Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University presents "The Holocaust: An American Understanding 1945-2015"



Lipstadt was appointed by Presidents Clinton and Obama to successive terms on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. A BBC film adaptation of her 2006 book, "History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier," is currently in development.

Georges C. Benjamin: "Becoming the Healthiest Nation: A Public Health Approach"

Georges C. Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association, presents "Becoming the Healthiest Nation: A Public Health Approach" as the College of Public Health's 10th Anniversary Lecture.



Benjamin is one of the nation's most influential physician leaders and leads the American Public Health Association's push to make America the healthiest nation in one generation.

Daniel P. Amos: "The Mason Public Leadership Lecture"

mason-w2.jpgDaniel P. Amos, chairman and CEO of Aflac and A.D. "Pete" Correll, chairman emeritus, Georgia-Pacific, will present this year's Mason Public Leadership Lecture.



Amos, who earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from UGA in 1973, has served as CEO of Aflac since 1990 and chairman since 2001. Correll, who earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from UGA in 1963, retired as CEO of Georgia-Pacific and has dedicated his life to public service.

Jack Rakove: "What did the Constitution Originally Mean?: Two Interpretations"

Rakove-w.jpgJack Rakove, the William Robertson Coe Professor of History and American Studies and professor of political science and law at Stanford University, will present this lecture as part of Constitution Day at UGA.

Rakove is author and editor of several books related to the founding of America, including "Original Meanings: Politics and Ideas in the Making of the Constitution."

Bob Inglis: "The Climate Conscience of a Conservative"

Bob Inglis.jpgInglis is a former South Carolina congressman and co-founder of the Energy and Enterprise Initiative, which promotes free-enterprise solutions to climate challenges.

Ensemble Concert: The UGA Repertory Singers

The Repertory Singers is a mixed chamber choir designed to offer laboratory rehearsal and performance experience for graduate-student conductors and upper-level music education students. The ensemble is designed to appeal to students (music-majors and non-music-majors) who wish to be part of an ongoing conducting masterclass environment as well as those wanting to build knowledge and skill in the areas of sight-reading, conducting gesture, rehearsal techniques, and choral repertoire.
