2016 Spring Dance Concert

The 2016 Spring Dance Concert "Repertory in (Re)Search" will be presented by the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences department of dance. Also to be April 8-9 at 8 p.m. and April 10 at 2:30 p.m. The concert will feature repertory pieces that are meant to reflect the kind of moving research that elevates the performing arts, as dance intersects with technology, gender, somatics and aesthetics.

"Cloning Technologies to Regenerative Medicine: Science Fiction to Reality." Hosted by the Innovation Gateway and Georgia BIO, this event will allow attendees to explore the history and possibilities of regenerative medicine, a field that has the potential to revolutionize medical care and improve patient outcomes across the globe.

Roosevelt at UGA Presidential Platform Conference

Students from all over the country will come together to develop their ideal policy platform for the 2016 presidential election. Sponsored by the UGA Honors Program and UGA Libraries. 

Conference attendees will enjoy a mixture of faculty lectures and interactive group breakout activities as each center looks to tackle the most pressing issues in their respective fields. Breakfast and lunch will be provided during the conference to all attendees.

Performance: Rockapella

Since the early 1990s when the group first achieved national television fame on PBS's "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?," Rockapella has toured the globe and provided a funky soundtrack to generations of vocal music fans. 

With buckets of original pop songs and contemporary revisions of Motown and soul classics, Rockapella has always been the group to watch.

2016 CURO Symposium

Front Steps

This is an outdoor English reading of Homer's "Odyssey" organized by the Department of Classics featuring readings from members of the UGA and Athens communities. The purpose of the event is to bring the magic of the epics to a large UGA student audience and to remind people that Homer is for everyone.

 

Guest Lecture: Brenda Longfellow

"Moving Statues: The Use and Reuse of Portrait Statues in Pompeii," Brenda Longfellow. In this lecture, Longfellow considers the afterlives of honorific portrait statues in Pompeii, detailing how individuals and groups in the city interacted with re-cut and re-purposed statues of publicly honored benefactors. It addresses the effects of obviously modified statues in public spaces, where they were seen by people who may have recognized the original honor and within the transformed statue.

Concert: UGA Tuba Euphonium Ensemble

The UGA Tuba Euphonium Ensemble will be guest conducted by Jaclyn Hartenberger, director of the UGA Wind Symphony, in a program of original works and transcriptions.

The ensemble comprises the students of David Zerkel, a professor of tuba and euphonium at the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music.

Comparative Literature Jamboree

Comparative Literature Department will celebrate its third spring festival with music, food and fellowship with students, faculty and staff from diverse cultures.
