Concert: Lineage Percussion

One of the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s newest ensembles, Lineage Percussion presents its unique sound and style in an end-of-semester concert. Lineage Percussion’s distinctive sound earned the group a quarter-finalist selection in the 2015 National Fischoff Chamber Competition, and its commitment to outreach and education has earned the group widespread acclaim.

Guest Lecture: Tammy Ingram

"Driving Dixie: The Politics of Early Automobile Tourism," Tammy Ingram, author of "Dixie Highway: Roadbuilding and the Making of the Modern South, 1900-1930." Ingram will give a talk focused on the ways that automobile tourism reshaped both the physical and political landscapes of the South and Georgia from the 1910s through the 1930s. A book signing and reception will follow the lecture. A screening of the GPB documentary "Down the Dixie Highway" will follow. 

Seminar: Jeremy Nicholson

Jeremy_Nicholson-214x286.jpegProfessor Jeremy Nicholson will give a special seminar titled "Systems Medicine and 21st Century Healthcare Challenges, The National Phenome Centre - Part of a Broader Vision"

Hosted by the UGA Office of the Vice President for Research, Georgia Research Alliance and the Waters Corporation.

Nicholson's seminar is part of a seminar series given by faculty from Imperial College London's National Phenome Centre.

Seminar: Elaine Holmes

Elaine_Holmes_1-214x286.jpegProfessor Elaine Holmes will give a special seminar titled "Phenotyping and Mapping Host-Microbial Interactions, The National Phenome Centre-Part of a Broader Vision"

Presented by the Office of the Vice President for Research, UGA Microbiome Initiative and Georgia Research Alliance.

Holmes' talk is the first in a two-part seminar series given by faculty from Imperial College London's National Phenome Centre.

Guest Lecture: Tess Davis

"Tomb Raiders and Terrorist Financing: Cutting off the Islamic State’s Illicit Traffic in ‘Blood Antiquities,'" Tess Davis, affiliate researcher at the University of Glasgow. Part of the Signature Lecture Series.

Davis, a lawyer who has dedicated the last decade to combating the illicit antiquities trade, served as executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation before joining the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research at the University of Glasgow.

UGA CSO Spring Pottery Sale

The UGA Ceramic Student Organization will hold a spring pottery sale.  Work on sale will include sculpture, teapots, mugs, boxes, plates, vases and bowls. Also to be held April 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.'

All work was made by ceramic students or faculty. Prices will range from $10 and up.

Proceeds from the ceramic sale will go to support a student educational field trip to a national ceramic conference, as well as to help bring resident artists to campus.

Concert: Hodgson Wind Ensemble

The final Hodgson Wind Ensemble concert of the season includes "Serenade" by Antonin Dvorak, Olivier Messiaen’s "Oiseaux Exotiques" and the first movement of Eric Morales’ "Concerto for Trumpet" featuring School of Music trumpet student Michael Meo, winner of the 2015-2016 HWE Concerto Competition, as soloist.
