Concert: University Philharmonia

The University Philharmonia helps close out the spring semester with a thrilling performance. One of the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s two large orchestral ensembles, the University Philharmonia offers a musical outlet for UGA’s student musicians, whether they are a music major, music minor or neither.

Charter Lecture

The 2016 Charter Lecture, "Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe in an Age of Terrorism: A Conversation with Bill Perry and Sam Nunn," will feature Senator Sam Nunn, CEO of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, and William Perry, former U.S. Secretary of Defense. Perry will join the conversation via videoconference. Reception to follow.

Refugee Rountable

Event attendees will learn more about refugees, their challenges and how the community can best respond. Desiree Seponski, the keynote speaker, does research on creating culturally responsive educational materials for refugees to help their transition to the U.S. Lunch will be catered by Maana Weenta, a local Ethiopian restaurant.

To include a question-and-answer session, and participants will be encouraged to submit anonymous questions when they arrive. After the keynote, attendees will participate in a simulation of the immigration process into the U.S.  

Museum Mix

The museum’s thrice-annual late-night art party features a live DJ, free refreshments and galleries open until midnight. Food provided by Chick-fil-A Beechwood, Heirloom Cafe, Ike & Jane and Insomnia Cookies.

“The Georgia Review’s” 2016 Earth Day Program

The Georgia Review's 2016 Earth Day program will include a guided tour of the State Botanical Garden and a Robinson Jeffers–inspired poetry workshop, followed by a keynote address "Coming Home to Earth" by internationally regarded environmental writer Alison Hawthorne Deming. A reception will follow with music from Hawk Proof Rooster and home.made.
