Athens’ Olympics Remembered

Marc and Becky Galvin, James and Carol Reap, and Jack and Jacquie Houston were among the hundreds of Athenians who put their lives in hold to contribute to the success of the 1996 Olympics. These three couples will share their stories. Clips from WSB's coverage of the games will be shown throughout. Refreshments and tour of the Olympics exhibit to follow.

Panelists will share their memories, and audience members will be invited to do the same

Class of 2020 Freshman Welcome

All incoming students (Class of 2020 and transfer) are invited to attend Freshman Welcome, UGA's official welcome celebration in Sanford Stadium. Students will enjoy free food and beverages, appearances by Hairy Dawg and other special guests from campus. Students then will have the opportunity to be in the Super G class photo on the field between the hedges. 

Event details will be emailed to students in early August.

Poetry Reading: Keetje Kuipers

As part of the Big Read Event series, Keetje Kuipers, an award-winning poet and assistant professor at Auburn University, will do a poetry reading. Her poetry focuses on isolation, longing and loneliness and her latest book, "The Keys to the Jail," looks closely at the role of women and identity. Part of the Seat in the Shade Poetry Series.

Poetry Reading: Ann Fisher-Wirth

As part of the Big Read events, Ann Fisher-Wirth, a celebrated poet, will read from her collections on eco-poetry. Fisher-Wirth teaches at the University of Mississippi and is a Fellow of the Black Earth Institute, an organization dedicated to the arts, social and environmental justice, and to matters of the spirit.
