Lecture: Rob Stein - From AIDS to Zika

NPR health correspondent and senior editor Rob Stein has covered global infectious diseases since the early days of the AIDS pandemic, also reporting on emerging pathogens such as SARS and perennial threats such as influenza. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, Stein will visit the University of Georgia to talk about his journey as he opens the 2017 Global Diseases: Voices from the Vanguard lecture series.

2017 Founders Day Lecture

Charles Bullock, Richard B. Russell Professor of Political Science in the School of Public and International Affairs, will present this year’s lecture, “The Highs and Lows of the 2016 Presidential Election," to celebrate the 232nd anniversary of the establishment of America’s first state-chartered institution of higher education. His lecture will focus on the 2016 presidential election.

Ballroom Magic 2017: “Can’t Stop The Magic”

The University of Georgia Ballroom Performance Group presents Ballroom Magic 2017: "Can't Stop The Magic", the 26th annual ballroom dancing showcase. This show will include Latin, swing and smooth styles such as salsa, samba, foxtrot, waltz, East Coast swing and much more. In addition to performances by the UGA Ballroom Performance Group, there will be guest performances by dance groups from around the Athens and Atlanta community, including Swung and CONTACT. With more than 20 numbers in the show, you're guaranteed to have a magical time. Shows are Jan. 19 at 8 p.m., Jan. 20 at 8 p.m.

Performance: Alonzo King LINES Ballet

Based in San Francisco, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet has captured the spotlight in the international world of dance with bold new innovations that break the mold of what ballet can be. The choreography of Alonzo King, a Georgia native, dazzles audiences by digging in to the mysteries of movement and bringing a rare honesty and spirituality to the stage.



Enjoy a pre-concert lecture 45 minutes prior to the performance.

Freezer Challenge Entry Deadline

North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge participants will work to improve the efficiency of their laboratory freezers by implementing responsible and sustainable cold storage management practices, such as freezer and sample inventories, temperature tuning, and unplugging unused units.

In short, researchers get hands-on assistance with cold storage management practices, UGA saves energy, and labs get cool prizes.  It’s a win-win!
