The exercise develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of students’ capacities to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.

Master’s and doctoral students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis or dissertation topic and its significance. 3MT™ is not an exercise in trivializing or ‘dumbing-down’ research but forces students to consolidate their ideas and crystalize their research discoveries.

The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s Reid Messich, an assistant professor of oboe, will conclude the Hugh Hodgson Faculty Series. Messich has played in numerous orchestras across the country and toured all over the world, and he brings that experience to bear in a wonderful finale to the Faculty Series. The UGA Symphony Orchestra closes out the month of March with its penultimate concert of the 2016-2017 season. Tickets are available at pac.uga.edu. 

The UGA Steel Pan Ensemble will perform its spring concert. The University of Georgia Steel Band serves as a popular ambassador to the Athens music community and the public at large. Made up of traditional steel pans from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Steel Band is accompanied by electric bass, congas, drumset, and auxiliary percussion.
