Academy Award nominee Scott Hamilton Kennedy is a writer, director, producer, cameraman, and editor who has worked on everything from documentary and scripted films to commercials, motion capture animation, scripted and reality television. Kennedy will discuss strategies for effective public communication through storytelling. In addition to discussion of general strategies for impactful communication, the workshop will introduce participants to the basic principles of documentary production.

Laurie Reitsema, assistant professor of anthropology, will give a public lecture to share the osteological research that was conducted in 2016 with human remains from the Old Athens Cemetery.

"The Past Is Never Dead: Kristin Casaletto" shows prints by the contemporary Georgia-based artist. Casaletto’s work addresses issues of history and how it is interpreted as well as questions related to identity and race. A relative newcomer to the South, she approaches its complex history from the perspective of an outsider without marginalizing its culture.

The title of the exhibition comes from William Faulkner’s famous statement “The past is never dead. It's not even past.” Casaletto similarly focuses on the importance and influence of history in shaping present mindsets.

Final exams, no classes, April 28-May 4.
