Film events this week

There are lots of great opportunities to see extraordinary, new and/or rare films each week at the university. A few from this week include:

Today, the Institute for Women's Studies presentations for Women's History Month continues with a showing of "It's a Girl," a documentary about the treatment of girls and women in China and India. 7 p.m., 148 SLC/MLC.

The 5th annual CinecittĂ  series continues with "Habemas Papum" on Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in room 148, SLC/MLC. Appropriately enough the 2011 Italian comedy/drama concerns the doubts about a newly elected pope.

On Wednesday, Volunteer UGA's Three-Day Film Festival continues with "Race to Nowhere" at 7 p.m. in room 267 of the SLC/MLC.

The EcoFocus Film Festival also opens on Wednesday with "Switch" at 7 p.m. in room 101 of the MLC/SLC, and two short films: "The Artificial Leaf" and "The Man Who Lived on His Bike."

On Thursday the Classics department's Classics Film Series presents Black Orpheus at 7 p.m. in room 265 of Park Hall.

EcoFocus and the Three-Day Film Festival continue through the week. See links for details about other films.

And get out there. The festivals and individual showings require great effort and planning and are not something you would be availed of in many towns the size of Athens. UGA is a city and you live in it.
