Author and poet Jennifer Moxley will read from her work at Cine. Moxley is the author of six books of poetry, a book of essays, and a memoir. In addition, she has translated three books from the French. Her poems have been included in two Norton Anthologies, Postmodern American Poetry and American Hybrid.

New graduate students in the Creative Writing Program will read from their work. To be held 7-9 p.m. in the Lab Room at Ciné, 234 West Hancock, Athens. Free and open to the public.

Prof. McCaskill will discuss and read from her book, Love, Liberation, and Escaping Slavery: William and Ellen Craft in Cultural Memory (UGA Press, May 2015). A man has been searching for his missing left hand for a quarter century. Enter two bickering lovebirds with a hand to sell and a hotel clerk with an aversion to gunfire for a hilarious roller coaster of love, hate, desperation, and hope. 

Production runs September 24-25, 27, 29-30, October 1-2 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12, $7 for students.

The 2nd Thursday Scholarship Concert Series season begins with a night of great music by the premiere large ensemble in the Hodgson School, the UGA Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mark Cedel.

Hashemi was born in Iran in 1985. At the age of nineteen she moved to Herat, Afghanistan and started working as a film actress. She and Abdul Hakim Hashemi established the Simorgh Film Association of Culture and Art (SFACA) in 2005. She has since acted in numerous short films.

The 'Yankee' characterization seems to be one that will not die, and when it comes to UGA's founder Abraham Baldwin, also one that seems to be deserved. Both will be the focus of upcoming festivities to celebrate the 230th anniversary of the university's founding:

the UGA Alumni Association will celebrate the occasion by hosting a weeklong series of events, including the 13th annual Founders Day Lecture on Jan. 26 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel.
