Student Internship to help with the Computers and Writing 2025 Conference

The Computers and Writing 2025 planning committee is seeking a student intern to contribute to the Program’s communication and media initiatives. Candidates should be motivated, creative individuals with strong communication, writing, design, and social media skills.  

As a C&W communications/media intern, you will work with English Department faculty and graduate students to plan, promote, facilitate, and document a major disciplinary conference. 

Depending on projects and intern interests, work may involve the following:   

• Creating social media posts to promote the conference

• Planning, recording, and editing podcast episodes relating to the conference

Designing promotional and branding items (e.g. nametags, t-shirts, water bottles)

Photographing and publicizing conference events on social media

• Writing profiles of keynote speakers and other notable presenters

• Assembling brief visitors’ guides to Athens and/or UGA

• Distributing disability access information

Working on conference program layout and design

The ideal candidate will pay careful attention to details; have a keen eye for modern design aesthetics; demonstrate effective social media, digital media, and branding strategies; and work well with others and independently. This internship experience will be for the Spring 2025 semester.  The student intern will concurrently register for FCID 4100: Humanities Internship to receive upper-division credit and Experiential Learning credit for the experience. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate with conference planners on organizational and promotional writing

• Write, schedule, and post social media updates

• Research and write brief profiles of locations and individuals associated with the conference

• Write promotional and technical documents 

• Reflect on your experience and rhetorical choices

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior with a declared English major or minor at UGA

• Exceptional written & verbal communication skills

• Forward-thinking attitude

• Self-directed creator

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to juggle several different projects through completion

• Team player

DESIRED EXPERIENCE (any of the following)

• Social media for an organization

• Technical writing

• Marketing

• Design (digital, graphic)
