Fulbright Scholars explore the world

UGA faculty participating in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 Core Fulbright Scholar and Fulbright Specialist programs evaluated the impact of rural nursing in Ecuador, brought research on telenovelas to universities in Chile, and will examine the coast and teach about invasive species in Chile. The incoming class of scholars includes Robin Shelton, professor in the department of physics and astronomy, who will travel to Berlin in spring 2017 to work on galactic computer simulations:

The simulations will help determine whether some of the enormous clouds of gas that astronomers have found to be falling into the Milky Way galaxy are related to the spiderweb-like structure of material that stretches across the universe, called the "cosmic web."

Congratulations to Dr. Shelton and the other UGA faculty on these extraordinary opportunities for international scholarship. Their work and new connections enhance UGA's stature and help build new research partnerships across the globe.

UGA faculty who have participated as Fulbright Scholars, those going, and those who are interested are invited to a networking reception on April 26 at 4 p.m. at the Office of International Education located at 1324 South Lumkin Street. More information on and registration for the event is available here. UGA has traditionally been among the top U.S. producers of Core Fulbright scholars, establishing strong international currents that enliven our campus as well as the careers of our faculty and position UGA to pursue the global leadership for which it strives.
