“Jousting in Medieval and Renaissance Iberia,” a monograph by Noel Fallows, Professor of Spanish and Associate Dean of International and Multidisciplinary Programs in the Franklin College, earned the prestigious La corónica International Book Award

Daniel Krashen, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award to create nimble ways to analyze mathematical problems

Barbara McCaskill, Associate Professor of English and Co-Director of the Civil Rights Digital Library Initiative was featured in “Focus on Faculty” on the UGA home page

Gregory H. Robinson, Franklin Professor and Distinguished Research Professor of Chemistry, has received the F. Albert Cotton Award in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry from the American Chemical Society. The award is given to one person annually and recognizes lifetime achievements and distinguished work in synthetic inorganic chemistry with a particular emphasis on creativity and imagination.

Roberto Perdisci, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award to combat computer viruses in data-heavy environments

“Soul Searching: Black-Themed Cinema from the March on Washington to the Rise of Blaxploitation,” (Wesleyan University Press, 2012), a book by Theatre and Film Studies Assistant Professor Professor Chris Sieving, won the Richard Wall Memorial Award presented by the Theatre Library Association. The award honors “exceptional scholarship in the field of recorded performance.”

Several Hugh Hodgson School of Music students earned at honors at this summer's Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Festival: David McLemore, Simon Wildman, Gary Garvin, and Alex Avila each placed in their respective divisions.  McLemore and Wildman respectively took the top two prizes in the Artist Tuba category, while Garvin and Avila placed second and third in the Artist Euphonium category.

Hugh Hodgson School of Music doctor of music arts student Joe Brent sang the National Anthem before the San Francisco Giants and DC Nationals baseball game

Theatre and Film Studies master of fine arts candidate Angela Hall's  short play “Greenlight” will be produced as part of the Rising Sun Theatre Company's Hotel Suite series in New York City. The theatre company describes Hotel Suite as an “immersive and site specific 21-day theatrical event featuring the work of 8 directors, 8 playwrights and 20 actors …  All plays take place in a hotel room."

The Atlanta Journal Constitution spoke with football quarterback Aaron Murray about the doctoral program in industrial/organizational psychology he’s enrolled in.

Psychology major Allison Schmitt earned Olympic Gold Medals in swimming and set the record for 200 meter freestyle at the 2012 Olympics

History major Orry Young was the recipient of the Army ROTC Warrior Forge Commander’s Leadership Award
